Acupuncture is a clinical procedure that comes out of a system of medicine called Traditional Chinese Medicine, which has over 5000 years of history. According to acupuncture theory, "chi", the body's energy system circulates in the body among 12 major energy pathways called meridians. Each meridian is linked to specific internal organs and organ systems. When there is physical injury, mental stress, emotional conflict or lack of inner spiritual resource, the natural and healthy flow of one's "chi" over time will be impeded. Each meridian has specific acupuncture point in which sterile needles are inserted and manipulated to re-establish the correct flow of energy.
